You can do /spawn and in front of you on the ground are two water portals, the wild portal is on the left. Go through that. Once there, go about 100 blocks out from spawn to start building. You must be away from others as well, you can't be too close unless they add you as a builder. Once you find an area, you can do /wild chunk buy and /wild chunk buy confirm. As a member you get 10 free plots but they must be connected to one another or else you'll start using in-game money! You can also join a town if you wish to go that route. You can do both as well! If you're interested in a town, Windermere (my town) would be happy to welcome you! You can do /t list to view the other towns as well. /t spawn [name of town] will take you to the town so you can see what each one looks like!
