Notch v Yogscast
« on: 21 Nov 2011, 21:29:23 »
So over the last 10 hours or so Notch has been sending out tweets about how the Yogscast behaved at Minecon, he was appalled at the swearing they had done throughout their live panel.

Here are some Tweet quotes:

Notch

I'm very sorry about the behavior of the people we won't work with any more. Celebrity or not, you don't f-bomb kids.

People

Who was it? Was it the Yogscast?

Notch

Yes, Yogscast.

Randomer

I just want to hear @YOGSCAST's side of the story, man.

Yogscast

You will hear it in full graphic detail when we're back in the UK :)

Notch

Wow. Hate, insults and threats are flooding in from Yogscast fans. I'll stop biting my tongue now.

Yogscast repeatedly insulted people, talked behind their backs, refused to cooperate, and acted like total spoiled divas nonstop.

They called us "a bunch of nerds who don't know how to run a company", demanded that we pay them to come here (nobody else got paid).

And they claim they're the reason minecraft is big and that we should thank them more than anyone else in the community. They're total d**ks

A kid wanted them to sign something I had signed, and they said they'd cross it out and put "f**k you" there instead.

Everyone else in the Minecraft community is all about respecting and caring. They're not. They're an isolated island of egos.

All this said, I'm very tired at the moment, and this will probably pass. I do like the work they do, very much.

Yogscast

An Official statement/Vlog will be released when Simon, Lewis and Hannah return from Las Vegas to clarify what has... http://t.co/JJyNWNEB

we are about to embark on a 24 hour journey home so will officially respond when back in the UK - Lewis

So what do you guys think? Big misunderstanding or a troll.. you decide! Either way its quite upsetting to see.

I, did indeed, feel tension between the two parties during thier interviews, though i do not believe this is true.  I don't see the yogscast as "spoiled divas", but i have never truely met the.  Hard to make an opinion only hearing one side of the story.

First, what is yogscast?
Second, if they actually said that to a kid, and this WERE just a misunderstanding, they would have come out and said so by now. I think the people who represented yogs (whatever yogs is) will be fired, lol

To be fair Notch is swedish, he wouldn't understand British humour, we do have tendencies to swear randomly :D.
Also Notch expected the Yogscast to go to MineCon, and didn't pay for their flight, Notch wanted them there (I think) If that is the case, they were right to act the way they acted.

To say they were right the in the way they acted, is rash.  I feel both sides are wrong, notch openly bringing attention to it and the actions by the yogscast.  Keep in mind that we haven't heard their side yet.  Also it is true many people wont understand British humor (I my self do), and many people at mine-con were american, due to it being in Las Vegas.  They should have understood they weren't in Britain and things acceptable to their own kind, may not be to others.

I do agree that the Yogscast were being very mean, and I don't think "f-bombing kids" will help their popularity much, but Notch did exaggerate a bit, but yes people from Britain usually do swear randomly. N offence.

I don't know any group of people that dote on 'Celebrities' like that
of Fangirls and the gaming community. It's nothing but he-said-she-said
and pointing fingers when both sides, allegedly, are wrong. It is
not a battle of who is right and who is wrong. Yogscast behaved
unprofessionally and Notch reacted unprofessionally.

Both sides, specifically the Yogscast, have a very little understanding
of their 'situation'. Simon and Lewis have branded themselves under
this name and have yet to understand despite their field that this isn't
all fun and games. It's a business. There is money involved and with
money comes much of a liability. There is a right way to handle and
go about things and there is a wrong way to present yourself.

I find this to be no different than the scandal at the Billionaire Challenge
some months ago. In the end the incident will go away but it will sum
up to the construction of a proper relationship or the destruction of
a partnership. The best way to solve this is to make a public statement
of apology and to define the boundaries of their relations. They need to
recognize who their audiences is and how to cater to that audience if
they are going to successfully maintain their brand and income. That's
all I can deduce from what I've been hearing.

However I will never put this much thought into anything this minuscule
ever again because quite frankly I don't care as much, I just thought it was
interesting and I had nothing to do.

I know I'm new here, but I was at Minecon with my kids and was at the Yogscast panel. They dropped one f-bomb at the end when they were goofing on a standard bit they do, according to my son, but it wasn't in an offensive manner, everyone laughed (it was Vegas after all).
I've seen the Yogs response and agree with alot of what they said. The event was horribly unorganized, but understandable considering it was the first time they had put something like this together. They should have used professional event planners. Most of the YouTubers had to provide their own security because they were getting completely mobbed everywhere they went. A friend of mine was volunteer staff and said they had to escort Notch everywhere. Most of the volunteer staff was busy controlling the lines and keeping people from getting hurt when they would try to cut in lines or push to the front of crowds.
I can say first hand that it was chaos trying to get into any of the panel sessions. As soon as the doors opened, people would push and shove and run to get the best seats. That being said, we had a great time. We got autographs from Notch and most of the Mojang team, who were very gracious, and from Yogscast as well. I liked Lewis and Hannah very much, but Simon not so much. My opinion. I also agree that there may have been a communication problem between Notch and Yogscast and he didn't get their humor. I can't imagine how overwhelmed they all must have been being in that environment to begin with and having so much chaos on top of it. I hope it passes soon and we can focus on happier things - like playing minecraft.
