[Other] Does a birthday card count as a present?

I know we all come from different cultural backgrounds, so I was just curious.

Oh. Be sure to imagine yourself as the giver AND then also as the receiver, before making the final answer. Feel free to leave your thoughts below :)

For me it would depend on who I'm giving it to.

My sister, mom, girlfriend -> present

One of my idiot friends -> nothing, maybe a six pack of good beer at best

Like Grizz says it depends on who.  A close friend a gift is probably warranted.  A casual friend from work, or the like, probably just a card.  A minecraft friend, probably a yummy block cake online. :P  For my family, the adults only exchange phone calls or cards on on birthdays (maybe a lunch or dinner out).  It's only the kids that gifts are given.

lke people say sometimes it is the thought that counts, you never know if the person who is giving it to you can afford anything more and if you only have a card to give, give it! its better than nothing! :)

Excellent point Drew.  Sometimes just saying "happy birthday" is enough.  It's enough for me.

tbh i think homemade cards are better than store bought ones (as long as it is creative) because originality tbh, and they can know that it was made just for them. Like for example my friend's birthday was today and she is obsessed with Justin Bieber, so i made her a JB themed card with a song and some money in it (my lunch money though so not that much money :3)
