Forum games and spam
« on: 14 Oct 2013, 01:08:23 »
Well recently due to the long wait of v6, quite a number of forum games have risen, and while some seem mildly interesting. Some seem outright pointless in some people's eyes.

What do you think of the forum games that have gone up?

Should there be rules on what forum games can take place?

Are you concerned of the vermilion of post counts?

Posts that are actually meaningful for some reason, other than 103 on a counting game

it is not overreacting, when you go onto noobscraft.com on the home it has the most recent 5 posts up. If people are posting on a topic every 10 seconds then it just spams that section and if somebody posts a new topic or makes a new post on a different topic then many people wont see it and wont answer on it. going to the forum section would just be a waste of our time if we could have seen it easier on the home.

mmhmmmm yeah no. and i hate to sound like a bad person BUT you did make the topic called "game!" which people have been posting quite a lot, which has in turn, filled up the recent posts spot blotting out other topics.

Its a valid point, but also it could just be faulty design of the home, instead individual posts why not the last 5 replied topics? i.e
instead of

SPAM has always been against our site and server rules, this includes "pointless" posts, when the game (http://www.noobscraft.com/other/game!-15502/) was originally made the posts in the topic did have some meaning to the game in question regarding who was currently winning and other conversations (all of which originally followed the rules of the site). What we don't want is posts which literally add nothing to the site; simply posting a random string of characters is in no way fun or meaningful. As I explained in the post where "the game" was locked, meaningful games where the aim is not simply to post are allowed as long as they follow the other rules.

As for the most recent posts on the homepage of the site, that is simply a list of recent posts made, if you want to view all topics which have had posts made recently then you can see a list of recently updated topics by visiting http://www.noobscraft.com/unread/ or by going to the "Forum" tab then "All Unread New Posts" in the dropdown menu; this page lists each topic which has been posted in only once in order of when the last post was most recently posted and will only show posts which you haven't already seen. Although your suggestion regarding changing the homepage feature may be useful; I'll discuss this with the other admins and you may see it change.

Just reading the last few posts in the game, while seemed like there wasnt a point to the game!
It still revolved back to the main post of currently winning.
why lock an entire topic when you could just delete one or two posts?
does meaningful have to be defined?

I honestly don't understand why "Game!" Was banned. Sure people were using it to spam. But I was joking when I said people used it to get a lot of posts. The point of "Game!" was to be the last one to post on the topic.. :C The "Banned person" forum game could be taken as spam then as well.. Oh well. What ever.. ;P

No one will get the last post on the comment due to people will keep posting and posting and they won't be a winner due to no one will stop posting. So the game is pretty pointless due to they won't be a winner and the aim of the game is to be the winner.

2. Personally i think there needs to be some rules to stop the excess spam

Yupp. Oh, and ...

3. "Vermillion" is a color/dye made from ...eh, poisonous stuff xD "Gajillion" or "Bazillion" would work, or for a more flowery vocab, "myriad" or "bombardment."

Initially made from Cinnabar (that contains Mercury, so it's toxic) and later from an insect (Latin "vermiculus" meant literally "small worm") from which it took the name. Now it's just synthetic.

Nothing to do with quantity, a lot to do with nasty things.
Hilariously been considered a noble color for ages, despite its origin.
The more you know :)

...and yes, spam threads are surprisingly spam.

For now, yes it is like this where there is spam and stuff but once V6 comes out it'll stop. People are bored, getting impatient and the only communication they have with anybody on the server is through the forums. After V6 comes out it will stop...well decrease anyway.

They be the one loosing out, Due to while they are fighting, other towns will be making progress :) Mayors that claim that their town is the ''best'' and it's not even made yet, will most likely fail, due to they will be wasting their time in dreaming land. Anywho, they should be a rule so that it's 1 town 1 thread not 1 town 100 threads etc instead of locking it;)
