From 8 FPS to 60 FPS...
« on: 8 Jul 2013, 20:24:50 »
So earlier I bought a new computer, cause I really needed one, it is about 3 times better then the one I had, and on the server I went from having 8 FPS in a very block populated area (Like spawn), to having 60 FPS +, and the feeling you get when you know you can play a game properly, without any kind of lag issues... it is just so good.

Minecraft uses CPU most of the time. I'm pretty sure the better the graphics card and the CPU the better your FPS.

A good CPU and a dedicated GPU is best my laptop runs mincecraft on the server at 60 - 100 FPS and even more once i reinstall optifine :-) just never try and play it with an Intel graphics chip my brothers laptop has an i3 CPU but an Intel GPU and it will only play minecraft at about 8-14FPS with optifine installed and his laptop should be more than powerful enough to run it but i found out that theres a problem with Java and Intel graphics chip so it doesn't work right

I run on a 6+ year old desktop with maxed out 8GB of memory and a decent, dedicated GPU. I get between 70 and 100 fps fairly consistently provided there isn't too much going on. The older CPU and 32-bit OS can get overwhelmed easily when there is a lot to calculate. I have also increased the allotted memory up to 1MB (any more and it won't load) and that helps.

Optifine doesn't increase my fps noticeably, but it does seem to smooth out the client-side lag a little. Plus the zoom feature is great for fishing with my old eyeballs.

Yer optifine doesn't give me a huge boost but minecraft definitely runs better with a dedicated GPU and yer 64bit is better especially when you have a huge render distance

You cant. You would need a new motherboard.
I run far view distance on an x86 machine. 3ghz processor, 8gig ram and a radeon hd 6450 video card.
The game runs fine under normal conditions, But it becomes unplayable during the first few seconds of a wave spawn in the mob arenas.

To be able to install and run 64bit Java you would need a 64bit CPU with a 64Bit OS the easiest way to check if you have 64bit is to just right click on computer and click properties and see what is says next to system type (windows 7) and then if you have 64bit you can then download the 64 bit Java installer from this link http://www.Java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

I should really stop getting into topics I don't know anything about.
