Redstone Rules
« on: 22 Oct 2013, 23:36:25 »
This is just a post about the rules of redstone for people like myself who don't know tons about it.  Now this can be your personal rules or real vanilla must abide by things.  Please no contraptions on this post if you guys want I could start a new post about contraptions.

Example of personal rules: 1 Build it make sure it works. 2 Size it down make it small but functional. 3 Hide dat ugly!
Example of vanilla must do: Redston cannot pass through solid blocks now there are exceptions for this rule like glass and glowstone.

Have fun with this guys maybe we will all learn something.

xavier redstone rules:

1. prototype it on creative mode first

2. put down a redstone repeater every time you place a line of 9 redstone.

3. DO NOT PUT REDSTONE ON GLOWSTONE

4. use daylight sensors to make a time activated thing, or use a redstone torch to make something that activates when the sun goes down.

5. make sure you are building on a good, flat environment.

6. BUILD YOUR MECHANISM ON PEACEFUL, if its a mob trap, turn the difficulty to easy and test out how you will get the mobs into the trap.

7.make sure you have enough materials to build your contraption!

edit: oh yah. if you do end up making a post a picture of your contraption post, and we can finally post pictures without having to put them up on an image hosting website. i can FINALLY show everyone my mob drowner from one of my superflat worlds.

When prototyping in creative, make sure to accommodate for a bit of server lag if working on things that need accurate timing (like music boxes or some timed games).

Hi,

I think its a great idea to share redstone ideas and give other players a chance to learn cool redstone circuitry, but I do have a problem with this;

If you also would like you can post about exploit and redstone glitches

Talking about and attempting to use glitches or exploits is against the rules, I've added a quote below of the cheating and exploiting rule.
Quote from: Waterworth
Cheating & Exploiting
Do not attempt to exploit in-game mechanics to gain an advantage over other players, this is unfair and your account will be suspended. If you find an exploit, you should report it to staff immediately in a private message in-game or on the forum.

Could you please remove that part of the post or remove the topic.

Thanks

Example of vanilla must do: Redston cannot pass through solid blocks now there are exceptions for this rule like glass and glowstone.

This is wrong, a redstone signal can pass through solid blocks since the block can be empowered.
Any device placed on such block will be powered and if you need to extend the signal from said block you just need to place a repeater facing outward.

A device powered this way will not propagate the signal to adjacent blocks and this is also the only way to avoid powering multiple devices when they're close together (i.e.: 2+ droppers).

Using solid blocks whenever possible is also a good way to use less redstone and make the circuit more survival friendly.

1. It has to be awesome, no little doors that open in shut because of a pressure plate.

2. Go big or go home.

3. If it is for a map/game, map has to look good too.

[Quotes last Tiberiuses post, not going to really quote it due to it was bugging up with the [!quotes] I said lol

See on peoples posts, on right hand side? it says quote, click that then it will auto quote there message for you.
If you want to use a quote tag manually it's [!quote] for the start of the message and at end of message you wish to quote is [!/quote] (remove the ''!'' in theses tags due to I did that due to it quoted it lol.  (add a ''/'' at end of the tag code) it's not [/quote] (persons msg) [/quote] lol the ''/'' is to close the tags off. :D (Just saying due to you used quote tags abit wrong lol) Redstone is like HTML on Minecraft to me:P

Back on topic:

I only use redstone for lights, doors. (Not so keen on redtone to be honest):D
Once I made a house, with massive lights. When i turned them on, they didn't fully come on, therefore I used repeaters. This worked. But when I turned them off, the ones ran by repeaters didn't turn off, so I had to make it so it does turn off ( Cannot remember how I did it though :D)
