RUN

"RUN!", a young woman, tired from paddling, whose sweat pours down from her flush glowing face screams out run. Without hesitation the two children traveling with her startled by her blood curtailing scream jumped up and out of the boat splashing into the shallow waters of the of gloomy, sandy beach. The boy, 12 years in age who doesn't act like a 12 year old boy rushes to the little girl. He picks her up out of the water and as the young woman instructed, they run. The boy and the little girl stumble into the nearby foggy, wooded area, not knowing where to go or what to do. They obey the single command of the woman that had been watching over them for the last couple of days, and run. The young woman who is tired from paddling, stands up in the wobbly boat. Just as she reaches a full stance the boat shatters into sticks and wooden planks. As she falls into the shallow waters she puts both arms around her waist trying desperately to protect the life she carries inside her precious womb. With her arms protecting her stomach her unguarded face splashes into the water hitting the gravely ground that lays beneath. It was just enough force to tear her cheek open on a jagged rock, but it made no difference to her. She knew her wound was of little importance as she quickly rose to her feet. She would not let her delicate state be her undoing. With that in mind, she musters up all the strength she has and runs. She ran into the woods, not knowing where she was going, but hoping to find the two children that did not belong to her, but that she vowed to care for. They ran hard, forgetting the dangers among them, dodging the obstacles that would impede them. Trailing not far behind was the reason for there spontaneous scurry. Bottles smashing into trees thrown by the indigenous people of the wooded swamp lands; the witches.

This was a perilous time for all mobs in the Overworld. The witches would surely not let common villagers exploit their land, and so they pursued the woman, who bares a bloody scar across her cheek. "Miss Sarah!", the boy calls out, not knowing if she can hear him, but hoping she can. He scans the area with hopes that she will come charging out of the fog. The little girl, whose pig tails are caked in mud from her frequent slips and falls, shivers and clutches the boys hand tightly. Over in the distance the little girl spots a light. This light was different from that of the sun. She glances harder and see something odd. "come on!, this way", she cries and pulls the away from the 12 year old boy, who doesn't act 12.

The witches call for there hounds, the putrid slimes. They spread out hoping to find the woman and her children. The woman tip-toes around the mushrooms that blanket the ground, trying to avoid making any and every sound possible. Her stomach begins to hurt, still she continues to tip-toe as rapidly as she can without making a single sound. She stops to lean upon a large oak tree, trying to catch her breath. Suddenly she hears the sound of a stick breaking. As she turns to look in the direction the sound came from, glass shatters just above her head. " I got her!", a male witch yells out. Her reaction took hold like a bolt of lightning and she burst into a sold sprint. Within seconds the tribe of witches gave chase.

The Boy, full of sweat and now alone, headed back into the woodland area where he and the little girl just recently emerged from. Then suddenly, over in the distance, he saw the woman he knew as Sarah, stumbling, wheezing, and reaching out for him. He ran toward her with haste. Just before he reached her, he saw the danger they had be running from all along. He grabbed her arm and pulled it over him and together they ran.

Sarah and the boy scurried to an open field where a single church laid surrounded by grassland. Bottles of harming exploded near their feet as they rushed to the old, dormant building. Both the boy and Sarah were out of breath and energy. Sarah felt the tension in her legs, and the pain in her stomach intensified. Then she felt it happen; her knees had given way. "go, just go! I cant anymore" she said. " Come on, we are almost there", the boy shouted. In his frustration he caught sight of another figure. The figure was draped in a robe as red as the dreaded Nether. The figure marched toward them and on the other side the witches gathered with their slimes plopping about. They were trapped in between. Even then the boy pulled Sarah's arm, trying to lift her from the ground where she knelt in defeat. The boy could hear the clinking of metal and saw a lantern on the end of a long chain drop from the sleeve of the figure cloaked in red. The Hooded man held the lantern in the air. It glowed a mystic violet light and the rocks on the ground began to shake. The witch horde shielded their eyes and began to draw back. The boy let go of Sarah and stood straight, staring at the witch horde who began to retreat. Never had he ever seen such a thing happen. Before the boy could question what he just witnessed the flash of mystic violet light was over, and the hooded figure put down the lantern. Sarah looked up at the boy. She asked "where is she?" Before the boy could answer the man in the red robe said " the little girl is safe. She's in the church, where you will also be safe". Sarah was grateful for the mysterious man having saved them, but her feelings of trust were not yet established. "bring her to me please" Sarah said. "She's safe in the church" the man repeated. "We'll take our chances" she reluctantly replied. The hooded man looked at her wondering, pondering. "you will all die out here. My home is safe, you can stay at least until morning." Sarah's apprehension was clear. She was not prepared to seek shelter from a stranger, even if he did save her life. Suddenly the doors to the old church flew open and out came the pretty little girl with the mud soaked pig tails and the wet dress with pretty pink bows. The little girl saw miss Sarah, the boy, and the hooded man standing in the field and rushed over to join them. Despite all the anomalies that led her to this point, she seemed quite upbeat. "why did the witches stop?" the boy asked. " I told you, this is a safe place" the man replied. As the little girl finally reunited with her party the man in the dark red cloak began to make his way toward the church. Sarah saw the look on the little girls face. It was filled with content, which is just what she needed to make a decision. "where are we? what is this place?" she yelled to the hooded man. The man in the red hood stopped and looked toward the sky. He shut his eyes and inhaled the wet, cool air and said " this is Windermere".
