I think the plot perms syntax is a little off. I'm pretty sure for plot perms in the towny world, the syntax is:
/plot set perm [resident/ally/outsider] [build/destroy/switch/itemuse] [on/off]
for example:  /plot set perm outsider itemuse on
seems to work for me. My $0.02

I think you could have a sponsor drive like on public radio in the US. twice, maybe 3 times a year, you ask for pledges to keep the server running. It works for NPR...

Towns & Nations / Re: Gotham. For mature players only.

Notice: downtown renewal project and New town rules:
First, I'd like to welcome Necaras as a new TA. I have notified derelict appearing plot owners in Gotham about a month ago. Next week, derelict plots will be claimed for the town and resold/reassigned.

Town build rules, as of 6.2.14:

1. At ground level and at least 2 blocks up, there must be a 1 block border between your build and the next plot on all sides as a freely passable alleyway/right of way. If builders obstruct the alleyway, a warning will be sent by /mail. If the alleyway is not cleared within 2 weeks, I reserve the right to assign a TA to tunnel through to make a right of way. As you have been warned, this will not constitute griefing. This applies only to new construction at this time, but if you have a structure that directly abuts your neighbor, please make an alley to allow citizens to move freely through town. This does not apply to a combination of plots owned by a single person, only between plots of differing owners

2. All builds in the city proper should be flattened to y=66. If your plot has blocks overhead, they need to be cleared or I will assign a builder to clear it and you will not receive the blocks/ores that are harvested.

3. Derelict plots. Any plots that are partially built/incomplete or empty are derelict after 2 weeks and a warning will be issued via /mail or PM. 1 month after warning is received, plots will revert to town ownership and will be resold/reassigned.

4. Absentee owners. Any plot owners who are absent from the server for more than 1 month will be warned by /mail or PM. After 2 months of absenteeism, any plots/property will revert to town ownership. Contact to mayor or TA will reset the clock.

5. Builds are allowed under the river/waterways, but the waterways must remain navigable in the original banks (builds must be below 2 blocks of the surface). Any existing docks/structures as of this writing are "grandfathered" in, this only applies to construction after 6.2.14

6. Built plots are no longer free, they will be assigned a price based on the build quality. Empty plots will still be free until town is fully populated.

7. Cash prizes for best builds in town are coming soon. Points will be awarded for redstone machinery, design detail,  structure size, and town theme. Nominations required, you may nominate yourself after the contest is announced.

8. Cash prizes for best shop in town are coming soon. Points will be awarded for shop design, layout, selection of wares, and customer service.  Nominations required, you may nominate yourself after the contest is announced.

I feel these rules are for the betterment of the city, but I will entertain mature discussion.
Feel free to offer suggestions for town improvements/structures.

Gotham has 2 tree farms, a crop farm with most crops (including netherwort), an armor/repair grinding area, an acrobatics training area, a town enchantment room, a public anvil, and the best tramway in Noobstown.

Towns & Nations / Re: Gotham. For mature players only.

I'd like to announce that Gotham is still open for business. I have been appointed mayor pro-tem due to the long absence of the original mayor, Reigando. I'd like to thank all of our builders and welcome all of our new members. Plots are still free and there is no rent, and we have many plots open. I have been touring the town and working to clean up vacant plots. If you have received a notice from me that your plot is derelict, please message me in some way (on this board or via in game chat or /mail) if you plan to develop your plot. I have given all town members 6 weeks to message me or develop derelict plots. I am looking for TA's for building, plot maintenance, and recruitment. We have a town tram, enchanting table, anvil, and many beacons.  Current plans are a batcave with piston doors and a batmobile sculpture. Please message me if you are interested.

Until the town spawn is reset by the mayor, I suggest town members tp to our friendly neighbor to the south, Pokeville, and leg it north and east to Gotham. It's only about a km.

Planet Minecrat

I went to login to my favorite server today, but I was greeted with a mysterious connection issue, an  "Outdated Server" error when I tried joining. I found out it was because my client had updated to 1.7.7
It's easy to revert to 1.7.4 so that you can still connect with Noobscraft.

In the minecraft launcher, click edit profile in the bottom left. then near the bottom, above java settings, Click the pulldown beside "Use Version" and select release 1.7.4.
Save profile.
Click play.
Enjoy Noobscraft!
Hope this helps anyone who had some head scratching moments.

It looks like the end has some new rules. there is a border that teleports you back to the end stone if you go too far out.

I agree. the Mods, Prefects, and Admins do a great job making this server fun and civil. I'll give a special shout out to Jackmwoodall14 and EmperorMyrf who helped me get fixed up after the server crashed.

The song reminds me of the theme song for "Cheers," which is kind of the way I feel on this server. "Where everybody knows your name..."

I agree with the earlier posts that the purchase price of noobz is set high enough to make me really reluctant to buy noobz, which is the point.

We all know that if you spend money, then you can gain an advantage, no matter where that money came from. Old money spends just the same as new money.

I, for one, agree with the admins policy of allowing noobz for purchase, it's a simple way to help monetize the server and cover overhead costs, and allows an experienced user who is ready to "take it to the next level" to buy a town quickly by pooling their real life dollars and buy one, instead of grinding for weeks.

Grinding for noobz is still a real life option, and it's pretty easy to get 50k in less than an hour of mining. At current prices, that's plenty of money to buy nice items without having to be lucky or skilled enough to find valuable ores. Plus, if you want, you can upgrade your repair skill at the same time.  :)
