Suggestions & Ideas / Re: A train station idea
« on: 4 Nov 2012, 15:44:44 »
The sheer size of this project alone would be daunting.  Perhaps something like a railway around your town sort of as a trolley or subway would be a great start.  Try that out and use it as an attraction to pull members into your town.  If you notice there is another town close by, you can try connecting a rail station with them as well, but with the way current grief protections are, it would require daily surveying.  If only 1 rail goes missing the whole thing is rendered useless.  Perhaps if towns were bordering one another, or even if a new system is implemented that allows for full grief protection, then this idea would be feasible.

You could always try asking, or sending a /mail to the person who has a full chest, but as Tidal stated, most players will not empty the chest as that is why it is there to sell and buy from.

Guides / Re: How to use the /Grief report
« on: 3 Nov 2012, 20:32:25 »
Just to clarify on the abuse of /grief.  Multiple /grief reports would be like 5 or 6 within a 30 min time frame to report the same location.  An errant /grief when you realize that it's not really grief at all will be viewed and most likely have a warning sent.  The best bet is to use the command only to report a grief, then contact a staff member if you feel it needs clarification or at least send one a /mail.  Posting signs is also a great way to explain what's going on if there are no staff online at the time of your /grief report

Guides / V6 Noobstown /commands
« on: 3 Nov 2012, 19:44:15 »
This information has not been kept up-to-date; some commands listed are still in use, but many have changed.

Table of Contents
Ch1        - General Commands
Ch2        - LWC Commands
Ch3        - Party Commands
Ch4        - Plot Permissions Commands
  Ch4-1   - Wilderness Plot Commands
  Ch4-2   - Towny Plot Commands
Ch5        - Horses Commands
Ch6        - Pet Commands

NOTE: Use your browser's search feature (usually CTRL+F) and put in the chapter numbers for a quick find.

So I've had quite a few players ask me about commands the past couple of days.  While we have wonderful guides on how to do each specific  thing in noobstown with it's relevant command posted on that topic, I've decided to do a compilation list of all the commands.  (keep in mind you may know some I don't!  If so, just post them below)

The quickest and easiest way to get info on any specific list of commands is by using the '?' punctuation or typing 'help' behind the command (i.e. /horses help).

/town ?    -   This will give you a list of all the /town commands that are available to you.
/nation ?   -  Gives a list of all available /nation commands
/res ?       -   This is a list of all resident commands you can use if you are a member of a town.
/plot ?      -    This will give you a list of all plot commands that can be used.
/LWC      -   This will show you a list of all locking and unlocking commands for chests, doors, and signs
Currently this is only enabled in the mining world and [towny?] worlds outside of wilds
/party ?   -  Gives you a list of all the /party commands you can use
/horses help -  Will allow you to see the commands associated with /horse.
/wild help - This will get you started on exploring the /wild commands.  There is also a brief guide posted
                             here:
                                               http://www.noobscraft.com/server-announcements/v6-wilderness-guide/

(currently only ranks Veteran and up can use this)

Support / Re: Nova Tree Farm Dilemma?
« on: 3 Nov 2012, 00:36:58 »
Let me try to clarify the situation once and for all, as there is definitely some misunderstanding here.

When I answered the /grief placed by Redfocus, the method we use to detect grief and who last broke a block in those locations only showed me that player: Redfocus destroyed the trees and saplings.  As they were the one that planted them there in the first place, there was no 'grief' involved, but I could not roll back the area.  There was no danger of being banned in that case, but I did warn against leaving the area open and filing multiple /grief reports on blocks that you break.  The only thing we can go by is what the blocks tell us.  The reason I did not temp ban Redfocus is because of this fact.  I did inform winglessraven of the mishap so that the town could take measures to fix the issue.  I apologize that you mistook my words as a threat to you being banned, but that simply is not the case here.

If you have any questions or more concerns about this issue, feel free to /msg me in game or send me a PM here through the forums.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Can we keep our stuff if we drown?
« on: 1 Nov 2012, 01:46:34 »
In the case of lag, or disconnections:  It happens.  Even I have fell victim to a random dc while swimming in water, or while flying as a moderator.  To my horror, when I logged back into the server, I heard my bones crunch before I even had a chance of using /home.  The best thing you can do is try to build out slowly and keep your feet on something solid.

In the case of mining too deep...:  Eh, there's not much to be said.  That's the risk you take for digging underwater.  Invest in a respiration III helm if at all possible.

The situations we have locked down so you keep your items are there to prevent players from accidentally killing their fellow members and taking their items or xp.  it's a give and take situation with both good and bad sides.  Try to focus on why we have the things we do in place for the good of the server, instead of the bad that it gives you as an individual.

237
That's horrible news, Daniel, but I am glad to hear you are ok for the present time.  i wish you and for everyone on the east coast good fortune and safe harbor.

238
That IS an interesting idea.  Like charging admission for access to something.   I'm not sure how that would be set up or even programmed into the game.  Definitely worth a look.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: What do YOU want in Noobscraft?
« on: 31 Oct 2012, 13:57:49 »
I believe that nearly all of those options already exist in Noobscraft now except for the cobblestone factory.  Towns may be expensive, but we are already running into issues where towns are colliding with one another as it is.  Plot prices are fairly cheap, not to mention if you want a town just to build a town, you can pick a clear spot in the wilderness and do that for free with the same /grief reporting protection as other players.  It would be nice if everyone could afford a town, but if that were the case, there would be no room for any town to expand.

As Jayjay stated.  We have a system in place that will remove all non player entities from the game when no player is around.  It's an unfortunant thing, but it solves quite a bit of lag and server stress.   I am sorry about your wolves.

I am not sure why you did not receive your 500 noobs.  Please make sure that you typed your game name in exactly as it is spelled in noobstown.  Also, it sometimes will take upwards of 10 mins to send the noobs.

There are no rules against building things like that in the wilderness.  I am unsure as to why you're dying, or falling off the structures unless it's lag.

244
The staff works together as a team, and I only have one thing to say about this again.  If you have a problem with the way the staff  is handling a situation, take your concerns up with an admin.  I'm locking this topic now.  Any further discussion on the subject of moderators not handling situations appropriately will be removed from the forums.

245
I would also like to add that Moderators work under a set of rules given to us by the Admins.  If you have an issue or problem with the way we work or do things, you should take it up with Water or Foob.  Instructing us on how to do what we have been tasked to do by the owners of this server is very disrespectful, and quite unnecessary.

« on: 5 Oct 2012, 22:47:12 »
Iamgreg,  The staff has no way of returning your lost items.  This is a survival server which means you need to locate food on your own.  We have a server shop, there is a general chat you can ask in, as well as various shops at the /spawn town that sell items in the market district.  Your items will not be returned, nor will anything else when you die from hunger, falling, mobs killing you, lava, or other normal survival things.   Try reading the guides on the GUIDES section of the forums on how to get started.   The name of your topic is Dieing for No Reason,  not dying from Hunger.  I will lock this topic now.

If you want to remove a mod from your .jar file, just go into the .minecraft folder.  Go to bin and delete those files in there.  Then start up the client and log in.  It will download a moment, and give you a fresh minecraft.jar file free of any mods.  You can then install the ones you wish to keep after that.

As there are so many mods out there, it's impossible to tell you which are safe and which aren't.  The only two I know for sure are Optifine and Rei's minimap.
