...
How does one make such a copy of a written book (without re-typing the whole thing)?  I have a little story I'd like to type up and sell copies of.
You can copy a book just by adding an existing book with a blank book and quill in a crafting table, as explained here: http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Written_Book#Copying.

Noobstown General / Town Applications
« on: 25 Jun 2016, 17:25:19 »

To get permission to create a new town on Noobstown you must first have been grated permission by making and having a new town application accepted in this post. New towns will cost 500,000Nbz as their initial fee, but can end up costing many millions to set up and maintain, owning a town is not a light task you are required to be consistently active and to respect those who become a resident under your title.

By applying for new Town creation permissions you are accepting the rules of a Mayor, these include:
  • The ability to take care of a community of player.
  • To make good decisions that are fair and acceptable.
  • To understand all in game rules and ensure your residents do too.
  • An understanding that everything within the town is 'shared' and is not yours to keep. Money deposited in the town bank is to be spent on town related purchases, once you add it to your town or nation money it is no longer yours and you must not take it back for personal use. It should also not be used as a personal bank for your own funds.
  • If you become less active you must be willing to pass your town to a high ranked citizen, we'd idealy like to see you coming on weekly but after a month of inactivity your title might be at risk.
  • To be a good listener and open to take advice from your citizens.
  • Be able to take control of situations that occur in town (Fights, arguments and what not) You should be the one to report any rule breaking to a Noobstown staff member.
  • The understanding that items and blocks such as chests in towns do not belong to you. If and when plots are cleared the items do not go to the town or yourself, you must make every effort to return them to their original owner or must store them separately until you can return them.
  • Towns are not to be created for small exclusive friendship groups, they are community orientated and must be run that way. This does not suggest you cannot run towns with friends but simply means you must be willing to accept members outside of your friendship group. If you are not an open town you should often accept applications or requests in game to your discretion.
  • Understanding that town permissions are your responsibility and that you are responsible for the permissions you set. For example: Setting a plot to public which is then farmed by a random player, that is your choice it will not be considered griefing.
  • If a player has broken your town rules, you are responsible for giving them power and this is out of our hands. We do not deal with permission based issues. We do however allow Mayors the right to know who has broken blocks, etc. as required, to ensure that mayors are able to take appropriate action against them in their land. e.g. Kicking or blocking them from town.
  • You must have the required money to purchase your town at the time of the application, at the moment this is 500,000Nbz. You must also have enough money to fund the beginning of your town, we'd recommend another 500,000Nbz on top of the original fee to begin with. If you only have 500,000Nbz at the moment your application will not be accepted, you must be able to pay the fee and maintain expanding and improving/building.
  • You must be willing to share your power with others. We're more likely to accept applications by small groups of players than just an individual who is likely to need to find extra players in the future.
  • You must have an idea/plan on where you'd like your town to be located before applying.
  • Upon making a new town you must outline your town rules before accepting any residents so they know what needs to be done as a resident.

There is no specific format for applications, they can be as long or as short as you think you need them to be to get all of the information across, but please include at least the following information in general:
  • Your planned town name.
  • A general idea about where you'd like to create the new town, coordinates would be great.
  • How much money you have at the moment.
  • Why you'd like to start a new town and not just join an existing one?
  • How will your town be different to all of the other towns?
  • How much time will you be able to dedicate to running a new town in general?
  • What are your specific plans are for creating plots, farms, whatever you're planning to build, etc. give an overview of your plan.

Be aware we will not just be determining whether or not your application is approved from the post itself, you will need to be an active, rule abiding member of the community already to even be considered. Please don't feel down if your application is not approved either, you will get a chance to apply again if you aren't successful at the time.

By submitting a reply and an application to this post you're agreeing to follow the mayor rules.

Can this custom plugin be used on other servers?

If so, have you considered making the download available for other server owners to implement, and making bank on all that sweet sweet ad revenue you can spam the download page with?
No, this will be exclusive to Noobstown. :D You'll have to play on Noobstown if you want to use it :D.

Server Announcements / Noobstowny - It's Here!
« on: 25 Jun 2016, 00:39:35 »
Town Applications are now open again at https://www.noobscraft.com/townapp/!

Noobstowny has now been successfully added to the Noobstown server! The server is back online now you should be able to connect at 'Noobstown.com'. There are lots of new town related features to enjoy now :D! I hope you enjoy the new features and improves we've introduced and plan to introduce in the future.

This is the biggest update to Noobstown since we updated to version 6 over 2 years ago now. It's a massive leap forward in becoming independent of third-party plugins which is our longer-term goal.

You can read a list of the changes which have been added through the Noobstowny update at http://Noobs.town/noobstowny/ and can see a full list of the possible commands at https://www.noobscraft.com/guides/town-command-guide too. I'll be on tonight (24th-25th) and over the weekend and beyond to provide help as you try out the new features too. Just ask if you need information about any of it :D. Or feel free to ask questions here.

As this is such a massive change to Noobstown we are expecting a few minor issues so please don't be alarmed if there are, please just immediately report them to staff and we'll work on a fix as soon as possible. Do not abuse any issues you find. We're also more than open to feedback on the changes so please give any suggestions or ideas you've got. :D

Just a note we'll be opening up town applications again this weekend, not tonight in-case there are any issues we need to deal with. I'll add to this and make a reply once they open again.

-Pulls out Popcorn and stares at timer-
Be aware the timer is a countdown until the server goes down, it won't be ready then we'll be down for many hours while transferring over the data to the new system :D, so you can actually be on Noobstown while it's counting down all the way. But feel free to watch it anyway :P.

What ranks are there in the new Towny system?
The ranks are outlined at https://www.noobscraft.com/noobstowny/#town-nation-ranks: Mayor, CoMayor, SubMayor, Assistant, and Architect for Towns. And then King and Nation Assistant for Nations.

Can I assume /res /t /n etc. still apply?
Yes those will all continue to work. There are all sorts of shortcuts/aliases for the commands; not going to list them all though there are thousands of alternatives in total.

Server Announcements / Noobstowny - Not Long To Go!
« on: 23 Jun 2016, 21:07:36 »

As many of you will hopefully have noticed the timer on the site is now under 24 hours! We'll be going down to update to Noobstowny at around 7pm BST on Friday (tomorrow at the time of writing)! The update is likely to take several hours, so the server will be down for that time. Both this site and our TeamSpeak server (voice.noobstown.com) should still be up throughout it though!

Once the server is ready we'll make another announcement here and will re-open the server (so keep checking back!) Since this is a new system we're introducing it will initially be in a 'beta' stage until we're sure things are working exactly as we want, therefore please be aware we might have to go down for quick fixes/changes if any issues are discovered. I have personally spent many many hours testing this and the staff team have been able to test it for over a month now, but we might have missed something so please don't be concerned if we have, please just immediately report any issues to us and I'll fix it as soon as possible (that's not an excuse to abuse them though :P). Don't be alarmed if we have problems, they'll be sorted just keep trying to play and check out the new features and let us know if you have problems.

While we're down feel free to read a comprehensive list of the commands in the Town Command Guide I have written, it outlines all of the commands, all commands which match up with the old system and any new ones are all listed. Plus it might be a good idea to refresh yourself on the list of changes as outlined at https://www.noobscraft.com/noobstowny/.

I really hope you enjoy these changes once they're here, it's been a massive project for me and I can't wait for any feedback, things can change if you . Really not long to go now...

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: animal farms
« on: 12 Jun 2016, 17:52:39 »
...I suggest adding a kill perm(toggleable) to the animal farm type so that people cant kill your wool farm and save you time!In towns^
...
Your suggestion has now been implemented into the planned changes :D. I have now added a new setting for farming which will allow you to set whether or not killing is allowed, this is separated from the original 'animals' option though, so if you want both shearing and killing of sheep for example you'll need both on. If you just want shearing then just have the animals option on, and if you just want killing then just the killing one.

Effectively I've removed killing from the animals option which it was in before to a new separated 'killing' option.

I've updated the planned changes page to reflect this too: https://www.noobscraft.com/noobstowny/#plot-farming

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: animal farms
« on: 10 Jun 2016, 19:12:28 »
Basically for anyone who wants to make a sheep farm for wool purpose, under the new system of noobstowny anyone can kill your animals that you have for public wool use. In order to repopulate you would have to breed more, there is a five minute breed timer per sheep. If you had 20 sheep thats 100 minutes to repopulate.. who wants to waste their time doing that for someone to be able to kill them a minute later? I suggest adding a kill perm(toggleable) to the animal farm type so that people cant kill your wool farm and save you time!In towns^
...
Firstly I appreciate the suggestion it's something which if there is enough demand we could definitely consider but you can already avoid the problem even without this new feature you're suggesting. For example you could:
  • Store a backup of sheep in an area with animal farming off which could then be used in the case that you get someone killing them rather than shearing,
  • Use spawn eggs (although they are rare) you could use some eggs to get a few more sheep to make your breeding faster),
  • Use a spawner itself, these can be purchased in-game using Noobz using /spawners, then there would be literally no issue if people killed or sheared it wouldn't matter,
  • Make use of the 'blocking' feature coming in Noobstowny which would allow you to stop people who abuse your farms from using them again in the future.

I am willing to implement this if there is enough demand, but it really seems like a duplicate feature for something you could already avoid. We'll wait to see how the poll goes. :)

Also just to be slightly overcritical of your 100 minutes for 20 sheep, it would in theory if you were doing it efficiently only take around 45 minutes to get to 20 sheep, and you could dramatically speed that up if you feed them and let them graze. Here's a table explaining how that works (assuming it takes 5 minutes per breeding and 20 minutes for a sheep to grow up) :P:
Minutes inAdult SheepBaby SheepTotal Sheep
0213 (2 adults and the first baby)
522 (bred 1)4
1023 (bred 1)5
1524 (bred 1)6
203 (1 baby has grown up now)4 (1 grew up, but a new one was bred)7
254 (next oldest baby grows up)5 (the 1 baby which grew up has gone, but 2 new ones now made from the new adults)9
305 (next baby grows up)6 (baby grows up but 2 new ones)11
356 (grows up)8 (another baby grows up but 3 made now)14
407 (another one grows up)1118
459 (2 grow up now since we started making 2 per 5 minutes 20 minutes ago)13 (the 11 from 40 minutes less 2 which grew up, but 4 from breeding)22
And it would just get faster and faster as you wanted more.

If anyone has any feedback on the suggestion though please make it, I'd love to know what everyone thinks about it.

Server Announcements / Minecraft 1.10 on Noobstown
« on: 8 Jun 2016, 18:13:38 »

Earlier today Mojang announced the release of Minecraft 1.10, as with all Minecraft updates we will NOT be supporting 1.10 yet. (We're still on 1.8!) Assuming that a stable release for 1.10 is available we will likely be skipping 1.9 and going straight to 1.10 when we do eventually update. You can find out more about the 1.9 plan here.

Recent tweets from the developers of Minecraft indicate that they may be planning to make releases contain less changes but be more frequent, we obviously will try to keep up with them as they come out but we will only update once we're sure that Noobstown will be safe and playable in the latest version. As soon as we are safely able to update to the latest version of Minecraft we will do (whatever version that might be in the future).

As always do not update to this version or if you'll need to use a 1.8 profile to continuing playing on Noobstown. To do so if you've updated first click the "Edit Profile" button in the bottom left, then in the "Use Version" dropdown select "release 1.8.9". Then click the "Save Profile" button (which is behind the dropdown in my picture below) and just click "Play" like you normally would!

We have still got loads of things coming to Noobstown this Summer, including the Noobstowny update which will begin in just over 16 days as of writing this.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Punctuation?!?!?!

Thanks for listening to us today Lawrence. It's much better now. I just have to get over my obsessive use of the elipsis...
You should be able to use dots "......." as much as you want now :). Obviously don't spam though :P.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Punctuation?!?!?!

I understand the need for a punctuation filter.  But for those of us who like to use proper English on occasion, it's kind of frustrating.

Today I typed:  "I don't think it's anything really, it's going to go away in the update."

And it told me I had too much punctuation.  Really?

Could we ease up on this?  I get this message all the time.
I'm very sorry about this. I've now adjusted the filter so you should be able to say that and other things involving more punctuation. Sorry for the issues caused in the last day or so that it's been there, hopefully it should be fine now.

If you think it's still too sensitive please let me know and I'll adjust it further.

The stage 2 of this change has now been put in place. If anyone notices any issues or problems please let me know, not likely to be a problem though :).

Server Announcements / Re: Noobstowny ~ Let's Talk Towns!

What happens if the town the person wants to join is public do they just join or in the new update you can't get any public towns?
The 'Public' part of towns determines whether or not a player can visit the spawn using /town spawn [town]. But if you mean "Open" towns then yes they will just automatically join, as explained on the linked page:
...if a town is open it will simply automatically perform the staff accept stage and make the player a resident immediately.

What happens if a player asks to join a town and no one is online at the time?  Will that request show up to the town staff when they log on?
If a player tries to join a town when there aren't any town staff online for that town then it will tell them to try and join again later. Like this:

... I have a question about if a plot is set to "wilds" will it be reset to a normal plot?? don't think i saw it in all the info but i may have missed it...
I shall answer with a quote from the page:
Moving forward there will only be 3 types of plot: Normal, Shop, and Embassy. Any existing plot types which isn't one of these three will be set to being 'Normal' when we transition to the new system.
Yes, the 'Wilds' type will just become a 'Normal' plot again, since the 'Wilds' type doesn't really do much at the moment anyway and there is the new farming permissions in all plots.

Server Announcements / Noobstowny ~ Let's Talk Towns!
« on: 27 May 2016, 21:09:29 »

As you are hopefully aware by now, for almost the past year now I've been working on the new town system for the server; Noobstowny. This has been an enormous project which has taken me hundreds of hours to work on, we're really nearing a point of release now though, as explained in a previous post we will be releasing it this Summer!

As part of our plan we wanted to completely rebuild Towny such that we'd be able to support our own features and fix bugs much faster than we could do if we continued to use the existing third-party plugin, it was however our plan to make the system work in a very similar way so that most commands are exactly the same, if you know how to use Noobstowny then hopefully it won't be much of a change at all.

Despite it being very similar to Towny we do however still have quite a number of changes which I'd love to discuss with you all, you can find a list of some of the bigger ones at https://www.noobscraft.com/noobstowny/ (just click on the heading image and the content will expand). The page is quite long, it's a lot of information and reading. I really would recommend you read it all though as there are a few important new features and changes you need to be aware of as the changes may directly effect you. These changes definitely aren't set in stone though, I am more than open to your feedback and ideas about them, please feel free to moan or praise them; we want Noobstowny to be something everyone wants us to move forward to so the changes need to be what the majority want, so things in that list can and might change. That also isn't a completely full list of the changes either, there are far too many small things to list, but they are the big ones which are likely to be polarising, cool or require your attention.  There will be a detailed and full guide for how to use all of the new features and commands coming just before the release which will be the final changes list.

We will be releasing Noobstowny before the name changing update and other larger Summer things to ensure minimal issues arise as we update each time. So initial update explained below will only be for Noobstowny, not the other Summer things yet!

Finally I'd like to announce our planned release date for Noobstowny! The server will go down for the update at around 7pm BST on the 24 of June (What's that in my timezone?)! We will then work on transitioning over and will release later that night or early Saturday morning in the UK, we can't give a time for when we'll be back online since we don't know exactly how long the change over will take. But we will be going down to begin the update at around 7pm BST.

This is an enormous update for the server and I really hope you like what we've got planned, but please do give any honest feedback you've got on the changes available at the page linked above. I look forward to hearing your feedback and I hope you enjoy it once we've changed over; really not long to wait now!

...I seriously do not have the time to check my gazillion hoppers and chests and figure out how this new stuff works.
I will just stop using this stuff and let people steal.
...
This isn't a negative change at all, it won't let just anyone 'steal' items.

Sorry if my post was slightly confusing, you really don't have to check everything, unless you've built something in the town world with someone else who was placing hoppers/chests at the same time as you and in the same spots it's really not anything you need to overly worry about. There are really only minimal chances of this being a problem for you, if you've building with someone else (the only time it will be an issue anyway) it's likely you're going to somewhat trust the other player anyway. Plus the issue cannot occur anymore, we've fixed it for all new placements since this post, only old existing ones need checking.

If you've got a situation with something that holds items above a hopper like:
or
And you don't own the bottom hopper then yes it could take your items once we turn it on, but that is really the only situation you need to properly worry about. You can no longer place hoppers like this if you don't own the top block so this situation will not be able to ever occur after the fix.

If you've got a hopper flowing into an item holding block you don't own like:

Where you own the hopper but not the chest (or other item holding block) then your items will begin to flow also, but if you've placed your hopper like this anyway it's likely you were intending for them to go in there anyway.

Sorry if you've had any confusion about it, I'd be more than happy to help you in-game to look into your specifics. This change isn't meant to cause horrible problems; it's meant to make things better for everyone.
