Dynamic Economy Update:
« on: 29 Feb 2012, 00:18:48 »

We have introduced a Dynamic Economy that of course updates prices of items depending on the amount of sales or purchases made. The Global shop is now stocked from the players of Noobstown, every sale you make contributes to the overall stock of the shop allowing buyers to buy the items.

New commands:

/sell (item) (amount)

/buy (item (amount)

Example:

- /buy stone 1

- /sell stone 1

- /buy 1 1

- /sell 1 1

This shows that you can not only use the name of the item but also the ID. (Stone ID = 1) You can find the ID's of all items by typing in Google "Minecraft item and block ids"

As we have just introduced this new system tweaking will be made over the coming weeks to ensure everything is running smoothly, we hope this will bring a whole new level of trading and earning Noobz. You can now buy and sell almost every item, how exciting!

Merchants AWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY,

Noobscraft team.

There is something called a "floor" this stops items going too low in price or too high.

Awesome update! It's almost like shares trading, except we have items.

I also cannot wait to trade some. I got so many resources to sell....

No kidding! While the shop was down, I ended up filling double chest after double chest with junk that I would normally sell! I was seriously starting to run out of space! O.O

Will you remove some stock when a certain item becomes saturated in the market, like if nobody buys wheat and it grows to 30,000+? Dirt is a good example, since it is at 180,000 blocks in stock and growing, and nobody ever buys it.

Yea definitely... or something like that. Although I do buy dirt occasionally... hmm... anyway, I have a request. Arrows should be worth more definitely. Like... 4-5 each? Would that be satisfactory? It's worth more than 1 each. It's not dirt.

Oh boy. Any time anyone now has a fortune of items to sell the price will plummet, making whatever they sell worthless. E.g., if i have over 9000 wheats, (which i just may) and sell them all, they end up at 0 and i essentially just donated them to whoever wants them. Therefore, diversification is crucial. Normally, IRL, this is okay, but on minecraft, having a good amount and means of procuring good amounts of a plethora of items is only feasible for the largest entities. E.g., were i to sell only 500 of my wheat, then to sell 500 dirt, then 500 stone, etc. i could make a moderate sum. But I want to make a massive fortune, in the hundreds of thousands. Why is having extremely rich people such a bad thing if they took the initiative to build, say, a massive farm with a yield of roughly 12800 wheats per harvest? Mmm? That investment is now a waste, and for me to sell my over 9000 wheats i would have to do it over a long period of time, much slower than i can farm, resulting in my having a massive deficit of wheat. Conceivably, even with an extremely diversified portfolio this would be sure to happen, as to make any money one ahs to wait for the price to "cool down". Furthermore, the resulting massive stockpiles of common items such as wheat, dirt, and cobblestone will keep the price at almost 0, and will also result in people unwilling to sell these items for such  a low price, at least to the shop. Now, you have people forced to develop their own economy and a massive reversion to the chest shop system, or God forbid, the terribly slow and torturously small-scale practice of "how much for one stack" or whatever. Therefore, you just installed this shining microcosm for the world economy, only to have everyone bypassing it for their chest shops and sell-by-stack markets. Worthless.

Unless, this is of course what Joe wants: A player-driven, player-controlled and player-regulated economy, all springing up from nowhere, eventually rendering the plugin obsolete, freeing up space for bigger and better plugins and generally reducing lag.

Although I havent tried it out yet and stuff so I'm probably wrong. Anyway, yeah. theres my two cents.

Also, could i buy a bunch of stuff when its low and sell it when its high? Or is there a firewall to prevent people from getting rich off the "stock market"?

No, Thats basic sence, buy stuff when its cheap, then sell it when it reaches a good price.

Dmonemac, if you read Joe's reply, there is a "floor" which will stop prices from becoming too low or high.

"floor" only implies a hindrance in the downward direction.

Unless there is also a ceiling.

I guess there would be a natural ceiling, you can always have more of something, but once you have nothing of something, you cant go any less. Although I guess if people wanted to screw with it and artificially raise dirt to 100 a block, there would have to be a ceiling to prevent it.

I went on there today... Wow, I tried to buy something... it's just too volatile...

16 of an item and it's already 50% of the way to its ceiling... There's no point in buying ANYTHING at that rate, if an item can go from floor to ceiling in a stack or two of sales...

And selling, there's no incentive for bulk as after the first stack or two you're at the floor again and it's just a dumping ground...

The prices don't change very often. They change like once a month.
