February - Changes that had to be made
« on: 23 Jan 2012, 06:23:43 »
February will be the month of change for Noobstown. We have lots of plans to keep our players happy throughout this year such as changes to plugins, custom plugins more web interaction, easier applications, renovations to districts, town capacity increase and economic growth.

First of all I would like to talk about the most important part of the server, towns. We have seen our servers towns grow and they have grown fast, we will be working to develop more on towny with possibiltys of town profiles on the website, auto town invites and more.

The changes that will occur in February for towns include:

Maximum plots from 2 to 4

Maximum town blocks increased by double, allowing larger towns to grow.

Next it's the trade district, the trade district has already transformed into our new layout. The district will be the new spawn for guests, members and supporters and will contain teleports, small tutorial, a auction house and market place in which you can buy general good from the server. The market place will change every so often to offer different supplys and rare items such as gold, diamond, lapis etc that you can buy and sell.

Teleports are returning too and will be better than ever. A new large world will be opening offering pure wilderness and no towns to make the main world for towns only, then ofcourse the mining world will re-open to offer monthly restocks of ores.

Plugins, we are cutting some of those heavy loaders off the server which will increase performance and reduce lag. These plugins include the livemap, pvp mini game and essentials, although essentials will be replaced by a lighter plugin. There is another plugin that may be removed which I have not yet decided on fully due to the impact it could cause of the server.

How will this affect you?

/tpa will be VIP/Veteran only having people teleporting all over the place can cause stress to the server, its only for the best.

There will be no pvp mini games but, we are thinking of ways to make pvp more enjoyable. Yet again our aim is to work on performance to make things like fighting more smooth.

Your home teleport location will be no longer be saved so you will need to reset it after the changes are made.

No more live map although it served incredibly useful for new players or even when travelling its not necessary when causing problems to peformance therefore we do not need this plugin.

Thats about it for plugins as of now and we will keep you informed as commands may have changed from swapping to diferent plugins.

Future plans as stated above more web based interaction, possibly a team speak and whatever we have suggestions for. Keep plugin suggestions down, we dont want to overload the server too much.

Lastly, Noobstown is upgrading the server box very soon meaning there will be a 1-10 hour downtime on one of the days. We are going for a faster box, located closer to the US and this should provide the performance we are looking for.

Wrote on iPad will fix any errors when I wake up.

Nice job foob. I like the changes, but I think the /tpa thing is going to be a bit of a problem for some people

Oh, well done! This is great news for NetherFrost. Although I will miss the live map, and don't you think not being able to /tap might make current members angry?

I think whatever you can do to make the server run better and for us to keep the nice community and all, then do it ;) I think it would be selfish to complain about any of the plugins getting taken off because it is for the greater good (THE GREATER GOOD). Yes, we can have opinions, but there's no need to whine about it.

cool but i to really like /tpa and will be VERY sad if only veterans and VIPs get it because if you die the only way to get it back is to go far far far  far far far far and get them back but if we had tpa then if we had a friend with us tpa to him and you have your items back
and i cant w8 for the changes

im not so sure about /tpa being taken away. thats sort of fundamental so far as online play goes.
Is it causing enough latency that it really should be taken away?

I'm quite happy that we change so much. Just /tpa matter is bugging me. I think it's quite good method of travelling, but if It'll increase the performance, I'll cope with that.

Hchambers is a pretty cool guy.
he gets expansion done and doesn't afraid of admins.

You can choose on your town profile to enable or disable it. Enabling it will allow anyone to be automatically invited once they click on your town profile button "Invite me"

When I said the main world is just for towns it means that we wan't to keep the space on the main world for towns to expand, although this does not stop you building there.

After reading the responses about /tpa going I do understand where you are coming from, this enables you to meet with friends and keep close together. The command may not be gone we will have to monitor it's performance once we make the changes.

i agree with hchambers, you should keep the tpa, it's convenience over powers it's lag (if any)

i agree with everyone else, i think /tpa should stay. I use it quite often, such as when someone in town needs to show me where to go. Since i cant use the live map, it might get difficult to communicate locations. Also, one of my favorite memories from the server was when i went splunking with a another member in a strong hold. be both died several times each, and i didnt even know where the stronghold was! i never would have gotten my stuff back!

"/tpa will be VIP/Veteran only"

Isn't there a better way to reduce lag other than forcing people to pay just so they can teleport to people?

Tell me how he forces you? Joe and the team never force anyone to do anything :S

I don't think he meant it like that. He's basically saying that if you want to teleport to people that you have to pay the server money. :/

Y'know "forcing" is a strong word, he obviously meant what he typed or he wouldn't have typed it :S

i think u should just keep the /tpa command its more help than hurt plus then new players would have to travel miles to see any other players  :P
