Latest Update
« on: 9 Apr 2012, 03:38:42 »
We recently updated the server. A few changes were made.

  • Removed the spawning of easter eggs! You can still get a prize from eggs but no more will spawn.
  • And long awaited:

Spawner Changing
Using spawning eggs you can now change artificial spawners to different animals. All friendly mobs can now come from spawners if you change them. All you have to do is left click on your spawner with a friendly mob egg and it will use the egg to convert the spawner to that type of animal. (If you want the little entity in the spawner cage to update straight away you will need to leave the area or reload though.)

You will need to claim any spawners of yours by clicking on them with a mob egg (if you use the same egg as the spawner it will lock it without using up the egg), this will lock it so that only you can then change what animal the spawner spawns.

You can keep changing the spawners to any of the animals as much as you want, but it does use up spawner eggs.

Spawn eggs are available from the Points shop and from events!

The following animals can be set:
  • Villagers
  • Pigs
  • Cows
  • Chickens
  • Sheep
  • Wolves
  • Ocelots
  • Mooshrooms

For example the "We are just trying to figure out how to add them, so it`ll come this week"-soon or the "We got more important serberissues on our agenda so we`re sorry it might take a few weeks"-soon;) :)

By soon I mean, possibly later today ;).

what about squids?
they are friendly...
We thought about this, but then decided that we didn't want to allow people to use them to spawn squids not in water, thus we didn't include them.

There is a category spawneggs n the shop on the homepage.
You can also buy them ingame from other players and sometimes they are given out at some event like the recent easterparty.

Why does it not allow violent mobs?

Probably so you can't just create an exp farm wherever you want. They want you to actually go out and work for it. At least that was the idea I was getting.

you said you still get a reward from the eggs but none will spawn, is this similar to when you hit the dragon eggs during the party?
useing the spawn egg causes a random reward sort of thing?

The dragoneggs are the ones that will no longer spawn, but if you still find one you will get the reward for opening them (like the ones at the party).
The mob-spawneggs that were given away at the party will still work (by spawning one mobs or by being used with a leftclick on a spawner to change the spawner).

I don't think Lawrence meant to type "mob eggs", It's the dragon eggs that no longer spawn, but the eggs that are already spawned wont disappear.

He didn't even say mob eggs at all :S he said easter eggs.

So you know what would be a great addition to this? The ability to move our/all spawners. Perhaps only using silk touch, but it would be a great addition.

I would also dispute the given reasons for not permitting hostile mobs, passive mobs give XP as well, and at zero risk. It may not be as fast, but it is reliable. Thus the XP farm reasoning is not really valid. And items farms? Well free food, free wool, free arrows? Whats the difference?

Now I can see other reasons, griefing for one, however a few zombies/skeletons in your house are no big deal, certainly no worse than any other grief. Creepers are no problem, the server already stops damage from them.

However there are some significant plus sides, hostile mobs make a great way to set up defenses around your home/town. Imagine a castle with turrets teaming with skeleton archers. Creepers waiting just within the door, ready to destroy intruders. Blazes in dark corridors burning your enemies to the ground! And the courtyard filled with zombies! Ghasts take to the air, screaming to alert the villagers of the impending attack, all rise to arms and defend the city walls. . .

</over-dramatization>

Anyway, it would be cool. . .

We feel spawner's should be used for farming purposes, it's hard to keep animals around your pens due to the multi player bugs and this is the fix for that, your own personal spawning farm animals.

Problem with adding monsters spawner's:

1. The world has a 2000 Mob limit having these mobs spawning at the mob machines will completely kill of the survival aspect of the server. Basically you would rarely see mobs around the wilderness or when mining in caves.

2. Easy farm-able exp, people spend enough of their time gathering exp from these machines it takes the fun out of killing dragons or working your way up to getting the best enchants. I have witnessed on one or more occasions of players stood AFK below a mob machine gathering exp.

Killing the dragon now is pointless. Only one player gets all 105 levels of experience.  All the good enchants are at high levels of experience and getting to level 50 with out grinding is pretty much impossible.  Even with a mob spawner getting to level 50 still takes multiple days IRL.
