Well that's bad news for me i cant connect to any server outside the uk my internet just cant do it. That was one reason your i loved noobs town so much the UK based server :-(

Guess its time to shout at my ISP and see if i can get anymore speed and play with my router some more i should be able to do something ive just had a new phone line installed a couple of weeks ago

rule 1 with ISP's if you need an upgrade tell that that the service is very slow and if they won't do anything about it mention that you are thinking about switching, that'll get you an upgrade :)

Believe me, i have complained to Virgin Media a few times and they have always gave my net a boost, no matter how small i noticed it, Sky should do the same as well (if your still with sky, got it from the speedtest sig, not stalking you) :)

Unfortunately the UK does not offer what we need, as in the past with Noobstown and recently with Apocalypse we've been hit severely by DDOS attacks; London unfortunately does not offer any form of in-house protection. Chicago offer cheaper bandwidth and in-house DDOS protection which is much cheaper than going to another retailer.

I  myself, who also live in the Uk am not concerned about the move, the connection between the servers in Chicago and London is not noticeable. They are very fast. There is not need to be concerned :)

DDOS attacks are on the rise, especially within the Minecraft community which cause up to 24-48hours downtime between attacks. These can go-on for days, weeks or even months you have no way of telling how the person wants to treat your server. Having protection in place allows us to mitigate the attacks and keep the server running smooth 24/7, 365 days a year.

Noobstown has never been just a UK server, based in UK, yes. The server is offered world-wide but primarily an English speaking server. We at least expect people to speak English in our global chatting systems.

Some people host from Canada, however the problem is the cost of bandwidth due to Rogers and Bell having a monopoly on the market. The Canadian Government protects them from companies coming from other countries. Also the fact is Rogers and Bell own most of the lines so even if you are getting bandwidth from NLayer you still have to pay Rogers and Bell some money. Its stupid, once was quoted $40 per Mbp in Toronto... Best thing to do is go over the boarder to the US so Seattle, Chicago, New York/Buffalo or Washington DC/Ashburn where it is much cheaper and if you have problems with DMCA then go to Europe.

The packet loss to Chicago, IL on speedtest seems to be terrible, over 15%

Compare that to London;

I can't say I am too excited about this, lol. Oh well.

Wow. I hate American internet after seeing that. Still better than most countries, but there is a residential internet war going on here stifling progress. Google fiber, for example, would blow these speeds out of the water, and is being installed not even 75 miles from my house. Those speeds are on a coaxial line or fiber? From what I understand, the max bandwidth support of a cat 6 coax is only 120mbps, so if you are rocking coax, thats the best expectation you should have, mrfloris.

As expected due to traversing an ocean, I'll have over ~150ms ping on the new server.
UK is around 50. In my own country I have under 20.

I don't know what the big deal is I have sat Internet, so like what 50,000 km trip just to go from Canada to Canada then across the ocean and I play quite fine today.  Can't wait to drop the skip across the pond!

I would have preffered a european based location, but hey, lets wait and see.
Speedtest show it might not be that bad....

All the way from The Netherlands :
