Server Announcements / Re: November Update!
« on: 15 Nov 2013, 22:20:52 »
Could you say, with this information then, that the initial scheduled release, had it been slightly earlier, would have turned rather disastrous? It all makes sense now. I had not had any compatibility issues with my single player maps in 1.7 except biomes. Chunky issues are a big deal, however. I just hope that Mojang use this code update to last for a long time to prevent these headaches for everyone in the future.

It is a risk to launch with 1.64, and now we know the risk is too much to be worth it.

the fastest way would be release 1.72 vanilla and ad the mods as there available ,so basically  were waiting on them to save their work and stuff they built  by waiting for them to update the mods....

I am quite fond of the professionalism this server runs by. Your suggestion doesn't seem anything near the style that this admin crew runs by. They change things as they see fit and when needed only, and they release a server that is ready to go. While it sounds like a good idea, the members of this server can find that haphazard way of running a server anywhere else. This server is downright the best there is, and I only fear people will lose interest if they wait more than a month or two of downtime before they can play on it again.

I will be loyal. This is the first Minecraft server I ever played on. This will be the last. My wife already finds my obsession with this wonderful game to be silly, but we allow each other our free time. I just hope I don't continue to waste my free time elsewhere, waiting months and months for my favorite server to my favorite game to come back online.

Why not require that everyone play on 1.6 with the server launch, since the new Minecraft launcher supports easy version switching?

Because of the same reasons already posted (and not just by me) ?

I mean, if a major mod team is saying it could take 2 months, why do you assume that Foob&Co are going to be as fast as that (or faster) while also having to handle a running server?

The API is also another good reason to invest time beforehand and be up to date instead of developing already obsolete stuff, imo. (assuming the API works and isn't garbage)

I am saying the opposite. If a major mod team could take 2 months, I think it only makes sense for Foob&Co to have delays lasting longer if waiting for 1.7 compatibility with everything. The API has nothing to do with the server, either. I was just pointing out that the API means for mods to work with 1.7 that they have to be recoded for scratch. Some of the bigger mods might have a head start, but so many things are not going to work for a while. The admins already have experience upgrading a server when a new version of Minecraft comes out. I mean, obviously they do, as they are on V6 of their server. If they had it working under 1.6, then launching under 1.6 sounds so much easier for everyone, not just the players.

id still like someone in the know to explain how they can generate a world from a snapshot and have all the mods working and ready to go?

my prediction is that they will throw up v6 and announce that there building a new world for 1.72 and we will get that in a few months after dangling the carrot.....

I appreciate all the hard work from fat noob and his help and really enjoy the server but it feels moor like we get hand me down worlds....after they built what they wanted....

there is a great community here of minecrafters ,whom I believe would be more than happy to to play on a server that didn't have a luxurious starting town/spawn..  its not how pretty your world is its the players that play on the server that make it great.

Um. They spent months and months building V6. They are not going to wipe that clean and say "Hey, uhhh, here, empty server, make it pretty." to all the members. As for building a map off the snapshot of 1.7, um, where did you read that? Like said before, this V6 server has been under construction for months and months and months. Map and all. The 1.7 snapshots were not public until after 1.6 was released, unless you have deep connections and lots of trust from Mojang. Still, I don't think the Noobscraft admins have the time it would take to run everything they have and also hardcore recode all the mods for the compatibility issues they would have with that.

I may not be an admin for Noobscraft, but I have a deep-seeded understanding of all these things to do with the snapshots, Minecraft, all the prior updates, 1.6/1.7 and so on.

Are the fighting still going on...? -.-

lol apparently. but  everyone stop raging about this delay. its here. its happened. just stop fighting and raging, be quiet and get on with your lives. sorry if i sound mean and/or trollish. but seriously people. come on...COME ON! this is out of control!

I am merely being constructive in this conversation. These statements are a pure example of how to NOT be constructive. Having a constructive conversation (in this circumstance) is about discussing things that could be of value to the Admins. A non-constructive conversation is unproductive, can be hurtful, and is uncalled for. I take offense to this, even if you were not talking about me.

Ok, so, according to the Minecraft Forge page:
Quote
As it sits however, 1.7 will be a rather large update for quite a lot of mods. As I said before, Minecraft has changed a lot. Which means Mods themselves will take a while to update. We are trying to get Forge out as soon as we can for mods to start, but don't expect any major mods to be updated until possibly December.

What this means to me is that if we wait for V6 to be released soon with 1.7 compatibility, many of us will likely be waiting a while. Server mods are going to take a while to recode just like the client mods. It might even be time for 1.8 when they are updated because Mojang appears to be moving toward a faster update cycle. I interpret 1.7 as a launch for Mojang that is meant to allow rapid content updates. As they said:
Quote
It feels like we’ve been working on this for a year now, with more than half a million lines of code changed over 1,104 commits we’ve been working extremely hard on this update. We’re calling this one “The update that changed the world”, because it really has in two different ways; there’s over twice the amount of ingame biomes, and we’ve overhauled lots of the code preparing for the plugin API.
That plugin API is going to mean Minecraft code that will not need to be overwritten to create plugins, and Mojang doesn't have to worry about breaking mods for weeks or more with every content release.

Obviously, if V6 is launched under 1.6, we won't get the new official biomes, the new woods, and a few other fun things that came out with 1.7 built into the launch world. However, seemings how I can conclude that the V6 world has already been built, waiting on 1.7 compatibility doesn't make sense for this reason. If V6 was ready and had launched a week ago, would it be taken offline right away with 1.7 until the V6 1.7 production server was ready? Why not require that everyone play on 1.6 with the server launch, since the new Minecraft launcher supports easy version switching?

Still, its not my server, and it is privately owned. It is your decision. You've all put a lot of work into this release. I just hope to not see you perpetually trying to release V6 in frustration like this, with a very devoted community shedding tears every day that goes by that V6 might have been released.

Mature people do not use expletives very often. This town idea sounds like "You have to be mature join, but you can be immature afterwards if you want to."

It's EU.DOCSIS3.256QAMx8CH/4CH

Its sad, I think, that I understand this.

Lol well you're not the only one XD

i dont understand it. what does it mean? lolol

European Standard Docsis 3.256 Protocol of communication, and the rest has to do with frequency and such. Its about the latest communication protocol out right now. It means mrfloris' internet provider is serious about their service.

The packet loss to Chicago, IL on speedtest seems to be terrible, over 15%

Compare that to London;

I can't say I am too excited about this, lol. Oh well.

Wow. I hate American internet after seeing that. Still better than most countries, but there is a residential internet war going on here stifling progress. Google fiber, for example, would blow these speeds out of the water, and is being installed not even 75 miles from my house. Those speeds are on a coaxial line or fiber? From what I understand, the max bandwidth support of a cat 6 coax is only 120mbps, so if you are rocking coax, thats the best expectation you should have, mrfloris.

That X10SLM+-F is a tough little server mobo. Just make sure they don't plug the ssd or any other drives into the SATA 3.0 ports. We may know better, but since I work in IT, I can tell you that we should never trust 100% the actions of another IT person remotely.

What kind of pipeline is this machine being hooked to? My 50d/5u here in Texas should have a wonderful time connecting to this rig in Chicago, but I am curious to their network and how much they are allocating to the server.

So /auction is going to be like having a backpack that you carry with you to expand your inventory, while able to view on the website and sell to people from. Wonder if it will be a full sized chest.

Will V5 mayors have to save money up to repurchase a town, or will a land grant be given?

IGN: UnlikelyPirate

WHY?: Cuz I R aewsum! hah. No, because Tortuga must rise again! My townies and I really love running a town that is dedicated to the growth all players from noob to uber. Just like Tortuga is currently set up to be friendly to newcomers, New Tortuga will take on that challenge as well.

EXPERIENCE: Been mayor of Tortuga since forever. Many moons ago, I came onto Noobstown, found an awesome community, and determined that I needed to contribute to it. I befriended Iboabdalla who bought a town and I helped him build it from scratch. Tortuga is that town and is now one of the premier towns on the server.

TIME: All the time and plenty of it. When I am not around, I have many trusted townies that cover each others roles to ensure the town runs smoothly.

PLAN: Cliff/canyon/mountainy stronghold town next to the ocean. Very peaceful and noob friendly town with low cost high quality plots and amenities throughout the town.

Agreement

I (UnlikelyPirate) accept the liability of the role and all of the citizens in my town.

I love it. The only issue I have is with the veteran status. I have a ton of v6 tokens, but not 20k. I will in no way be able to get 20k in tokens even if it was possible for me to spend a whole additional year plus on the server before the upgrade. I find it odd that very much newer people have joined and just grinded non-stop, allowing them to get more tokens than more deserved veterans. I may not play on the server as much as they have, but I have still supported it, and it is still the only server or minecraft I play. Noobstown on minecraft is also the only game I really play, when I can, as life is busy for me right now.

I definitely will play on, either way. I have some great friends on this server. I will petition to create a town too. Tortuga has been nothing but fun.

17
Keep it simple. If the player has been VIP since before the announcement and has been playing on the server at least a year before V6 kicks in, then consider them for veteran. I will never have the most money or the highest mcmmo stats. Everyone plays this game differently. This idea will narrow down the list considerably too.

Suggestions & Ideas / Villager Market
« on: 16 Jan 2013, 17:06:46 »
What would be really nice is if there was a converter villager at the entrance to the villager market.

IMO, Here are the recipes it should have:

3 Iron Ingot -> 1 Gold Ingot
1 Gold Ingot -> 3 Iron Ingot
5 Gold Ingot  -> 1 Diamond
1 Diamond -> 5 Gold Ingot
3 Diamond -> 1 Emerald
1 Emerald -> 3 Diamond

Here is an example of the value of each of these items based on the price of iron ingots:

Iron Ingots: 20 noobz
Gold Ingots: 60 noobz (20 x 3)
Diamond: 300 noobz (60 x 5)
Emerald: 900 noobz (300 x 3)
Diamond Pickaxe: 4500 noobz (900 x 5)

This also means that it takes 45 Iron Ingots to get one Emerald. Even if someone found a good price on Iron Ingots, or mined a ton of them, it would still not translate real fast. It would still take 405 Iron Ingots to make just one Emerald Block.

Why do I think this is a good idea? It is either really expensive or really hard to get emeralds. I've spent a day mining for emeralds on the first day of a mining world reset and I found 9 of them. I was competing with 3 other people in the area too. 9 emeralds doesn't buy anything worthwhile in the villager market. At that rate, I would be better off not using it and going about getting the resources to make the items myself.

Is there any resolve to the plot-master problem in the works?

Towns & Nations / Re: Nations Represented
« on: 1 Nov 2012, 02:46:55 »
Update:

The plots are now ready. I am completing final aesthetic details and the plot spawn area. From the Tortuga spawn, head to -3352,+3080. Its not far and you can take the town roads the whole way. Or look for me to be online and teleport to me.

Soon enough, there will be an outpost spawn there. I am asking 15k for the plot, and only one plot per nation. I will not have the plots for sale until each nation contacts me and lets me know who is allowed to buy one. The nations are allowed to build whatever they want, as long as they do not build higher than the castle walls by 8 blocks or more.

23
The Mayors do not get reset, just the assistants because their ranks need updating. When the mayor comes online he will simply just change the ranks of his ex-assistants back to assistant or higher. He/she can do this whilst they are offline too, its really simple and nothing to worry about. (Yes, the ex-assistants are still in the town but are just set back to resident)

How do we do this while offline?

Towns & Nations / Nations Represented
« on: 15 Oct 2012, 07:29:03 »
So, as some of you have known, I have been working hard on a massive castle in Torutga. The idea is that half of the main courtyard of this castle will be the castle itself, and the other half will be dedicated to plots.

After getting most of the castle done, I've reviewed how the plots would be laid out over and over. I am certain I could fit 9 plots in there. If I make it so each of those plots has no bordering plots, I can fit 7. I think I have decided on 5 or 6 plots though.

Initially, they were going to be embassy plots that anyone except for Tortuga citizens could own. However, since the plots are limited, and they will have their own outpost spawn, I feel that it would be better if every nation bought a plot to represent itself in one location. The plot structures cannot be built higher than the castle wall, but there is no limit on depth. There will be a few amenities, including access to a double skeleton spawner and cave spider spawner.

Nations are free to advertise their towns, and what makes them special. I feel that all nations are somewhat lacking in solid representation all in one location. Within each plot, the towns can be showcased that belong to each nation.

I hope to have the castle finished in the next two weeks if everything goes smoothly. Money is the biggest issue, as the latest cost of plots has made me work hard to buy the plots. There were over 100 to claim, and I have about 30 left to go. Once the plots are all claimed and laid out, I will personally make the plots available when the representative of each nation is ready. I am looking at a price of 15k to 20k for the plot, with no tax of any kind. The outpost spawn will come once all the nations buy their representative plots.

I really hope to see a conversation follow this idea, discussing the price and other questions or comments. Let me know what you think.
