Noobstown General / Re: On the topic of respect. . . TP'ing
« on: 3 Jul 2011, 04:36:48 »
This has been really upsetting to me to see this happen so much. I find the tp command extremely useful when my friends and I are exploring or mining together, we have given each other permission to do so and it saves us a lot of tp accept commands.

What also upsets me is seeing how many people who are inexperienced with the server will donate right away. I haven't been here long either, but I waited over a month to donate. I didn't do it for any reason other than to help with server costs.

I feel like a white list is a great idea as the server is growing rapidly and is becoming more difficult to police. When I first started on the server, there seemed to be a lot more respect between players.

Sorry, I just read your entire post. I didn't know they disabled the downloads for XP, I've been using Mac OSX for a while. They say Windows 7 is really good and stable now, but if that isn't an option, you could probably find an install disc with SP3 on it on eBay? Good luck!

Is it a legit version of XP? If it is, go to Control Panel and find the automatic updates. Service pack 3 should download automatically. You should enable the auto updates because there will be quite a few before it downloads SP3.

Just so everyone knows, you need the most recent Minecraft Launcher. If you don't see the News screen when you open Minecraft, go to the minecraft site an download it again. The old launchers don't have a choice on the updates, instead they downloaded and patched automatically.

I had the launcher from Alpha and I screwed this up when 1.6 came out.

It works really well even for casual mining. The central branch makes it easy to find where you left off last. Make sure to hit the right layers for diamonds! I even find a lot of Lapis at 13/14

No disrespect to the OP, but I am trying to understand why so many players feel entitled to a perfect game experience in Beta?

Did you know that you can build a record player to play it in too?

I can't get a link right now because Minecraft Wiki is down. Try googling minecraft record player.

Welcome! Check the forums regularly, they're loaded with info on how the server runs.

Hey, if anybody on this server makes any money doing it, good for them. It will never bother me when people get something for all their hard work :)

Too much time and energy goes into this server for it to be considered a source of income for Joe and his team. If that were the case, it wouldn't be a donation but a fee required to get on the white list. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

Donate only if you feel good about doing it.

That's perfect because I have no Internet in the countryside right now :)

I don't  care for how long it will take for the server to come up, I'm just curious if we have to start over. I don't think we do but i just want to clear it up before 10 other people ask.
I don't imagine we would have to, they're probably just migrating the server data to the new mahines.

Welcome! Does CA mean California or Nova Scotia Canada?

Server an forum are both a lot of fun, lots of people from around the world so you see different people depending on what time of  day you go online.

Hope to see you on!

Let me know if you need any audio work done, dialogue editing, music editing or even mixing. I have worked on quite a few short films when I was in Vancouver going to audio school.

I was looking to join a town soon to see what it's like but I'm wondering who here has a town (or is part of one) that either lives in Western Canada/America (GMT -8) or is online during what I would call "evening." I don't think it will be as much fun if it's a town of people from Europe who are going to sleep as I'm getting home from work!

« on: 17 Jun 2011, 05:38:59 »
I also forgot, I've donated for open source software in beta before, neither because I felt like I should be entitled to something nor because I enjoyed any previous experiences; I donated because I saw potential in something people were doing and hoped that they would continue and enjoy themselves doing it. I believe the internet is made better by the people who are willing to take the risks.

I think this topic got a little out of hand and I don't think anyone means any disrespect. I've only been here a few weeks and already feel like donating would be a good thing for the server. A lot of people on here put in a lot of time for nothing in return but the good experiences this server allows for, with or without lag. I know some of you (myself included) have spent many hours on these forums even when the servers were down. That shows commitment and community.

I've been planning to donate for quite a while, yesterday I even tried but my internet was down, my iPhone got all glitchy and I spent most of the night in tears from what was happening in the streets of Vancouver. I just sat down at my Macbook with intentions of donating now and I saw this thread.

I don't know everyone here all that well but I've found a community I enjoy and I'm willing to watch it improve over time. Remember, Minecraft is still in Beta, the server code is even younger and things like Bukkit are modifications developed by third parties who aren't even involved in production of the actual game.
