Suggestions & Ideas / Can you hear me?
« on: 20 Aug 2014, 02:00:29 »
Hello,
I have a simple (I think) suggestion. I have seen in chat, and have done it myself,  that players get so involved with what they are doing that they miss other players trying to contact them.  My suggestion is

 /call [playername]

command that sets off distinct sound (enderman screech, maybe?) or flickers the screen on the players side (could be players choice). The sound effect could also be tied to the first private message on player sends to another. Of course, there are players who would see this as an invasion of privacy, so each player could turn receiving calls off, returning an AFK or "Player has calls off" message.

Just a simple(?) suggestion. I am sure there are a lot of details that I haven't considered.

It also takes practice, (just like that weird place called real-life   :D ) and, for me at least, a readiness to tear down what you built because you figured out what you really want. and have fun doing it!

Oh no... not the egg puns... No!!!!!!!!! Still looks like a fun event though!

I know what you mean - egg puns are a dime a dozen this time of year and they're not all they're cracked up to be.  :)

Can anyone describe eggsactly what happened?

At the Minecraft login page, Mojang reported that one dozen villagers had become sentient, broke into the system and scrambled the network.  The Zombies hatched a poulty-giest that fowled up the system as well leaving the skin servers fried and the Content Delivert Networks baked.

Being birds of a feather, our Admins stuck together and hatched a plan to collect the eggs by confusing the rebellious chickens with subtle coding changes to chat- The chickens didn't realize that we were turning into chickens- they thought we were all Steves.

That's all I know. I'm want an omelet for some reason.

Looks great ummfred! It's good to know where the towns are in relation to each other. It will be a huge help for all of us who plan to hike from town to town! And will help keep towns spread out (or as close) as they want.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: shop vs auction
« on: 24 Feb 2014, 04:30:41 »
The problem with chest shops in the Wild is how does one get to the shop? You could TPA but then the owner has to be online and available making the timing issue even more restrictive. I could travel overland to a shop, but that could be several day cycles (and for me, several deaths later) to reach a shop on the Far Side. I could use the Map and TPA to a nearest player, but many players don't accept random TPAs.

The problem with a chest shop in town is one has to belong to a large town. In a town of <50 or so players, I doubt there would be enough traffic to make a chest shop work well. For the chest shop to work in a town the shop would need to be near town spawn (if they are to be found by non-residents), but these spaces usually go to pseudo-government type structures (libraries, parks, mayor's homes) or more functional structures like animal farms or plant farms.

Chest shops are about helping the economy move and towns grow. FlammableCow is right-it's hard to build the town of your dreams if you have to wait 24 hours for each stack of materials (and selling in auction is tough-there has been some fierce downward pressure on prices lately-500 Noobz to 1 Noob on some items.) The shop district in V5 worked since most of the sellers were in the same area. This can be seen in real life at your local mall or strip shopping center. The advantage of sellers being together is so strong that even the demonic retailer Wal-Mart has a collection of shops that open around it.

Just putting in two more cents! Still hoping to see chest shops soon!

Suggestions & Ideas / shop vs auction
« on: 22 Feb 2014, 05:54:36 »
Hello!

I was wondering if chest shops were in the plans for Noobstown. I like he auction, but there are definate limitations. I think that chest shops and auction would work together well.

One of the biggest drawback to Auction is timing. If I have spider eyes in the auction and the time runs out, I could miss a sale if 5 minutes later an enchantress logs on looking for an ingredient for her favorite potions. The semi permanence of the chest shops would do away with this. This would also improve the economy by making low value or low volume items profitable to sell since the auction fees are bypassed. (Yes, there would still be rent). The auction is great for higher volume or high valued items.

The biggest drawback (the only one I have seen mentioned, repeatedly) to the chest shops is location, location, location! The shop owners who have front and center placement for their shops have an unfair advantage over those in the back. What I suggest would be /warp-shop that takes you to the shops and would work like this:

The destination for /warp-shop would be a shop cell. Each cell (there could be as many as needed) would have a central courtyard 3x3 chunks. Each side of the courtyard would have 3 one chunk shops for the player to rent. These could be blank plots for the player to build on or could be pre-built, each identical to the other (boring, but “fair”). The buyer would warp into the center of each cell, giving each shop owner a chance at front row placement. Behind the scenes, the server would place buyer 1 in cell 1 facing North, buyer 2 in cell 1 facing East, Buyer 3 cell 1 facing South, buyer 4 cell 1 facing West, buyer 5 in cell 2 facing North and so on. Once in the shop zone, a buyer will be able to /warp shop 3 and go to cell 3, where his favorite seller of rotten flesh peddles his wares. The shop owner could have /warp-myshop to take him to their own shop.

V6 Noobstown looks awesome. What I have suggested for chest shops breaks with the aesthetics of Noobstown since the cells would be separate from Noobstown. To help with this, I offer a variation on this theme (warping to give all owners a shot at front and center). There could be a shop zone, like in V5. The big difference for V6 would be that when you go through the entrance of the shopping district, the buyer would warp to the next store in the list.

Just putting in my two cents. Hope to see chest shops soon!

Noobstown General / Summer release?
« on: 25 Jan 2014, 14:12:13 »
Okay,okay,

I logged in, pulled up multiplayer, and there was a statement by Noobscraft saying "summer release-cough". Is this trying to tell us something? Or are you confirming my original prediction(made in Sept or so) of a summer release, Southern Hemisphere?
There was also a message saying "we are prepared, are you?" meaning any day now, I hope. Which is it...I'm soooo confused.

Look at it this way, gg. You're not even half as old as me (and I still play games and have a 6 yr old child [who REALLY cannot wait to see you online again  :)]), and I'm not half as old as my Dad. So we still have a few years to go.  :D

Cool! My 6 year old got a telescope for Christmas and is looking in the sky now. I know she won't need the telescope, but this will be something neat for her to see. The light pollution here is sort of bad. When I was her age, I could see the haze of stars from the galaxy. Now I can see only the brighter stars. But, the station will still be visible.

Thanks for keeping us informed on cool stuff.

And to also rig his basement with tons and tons of tnt, but don't tell him...  O:)
So we have the same plans? ;) O:)

I plan on getting online 3 hours before it's open to public, and finding a nice little place with Esp1222.

THREE HOURS?! To find a place? From what I've seen I'm planning on three long days of exploring just to find the perfect plot. Then a cobblestone hut. Then a palace. Then an empire. Then The Empire. Nothing major. AND have fun...bringing the world to its knees etc.

I have also watched the space suspense movie Gravity in the past week. Also good. I still wonder if tears stick on your face when you cry in space, or if they would float dramatically toward the camera. I did confirm that when it's almost sunrise in the Sinai Peninsula, it's right about 8 pm in Illinois.

I generally cringe when movies come out that have NASA in them.  Only movie I've ever seen that was relatively accurate was Apollo 13.  Mind you, the NASA of today is nothing like the NASA of Apollo days.  At any rate, a coworker of mine said he went to see Gravity.  He thought it was good, but you had to "leave your orbital mechanics hat at the door".  I hate that!  :P

Max

a NASA movie? i went to the JPL today on a field trip. lolz xD

I remember going on field trips to Marshall Space Flight Center and the Space and Rocket Museum here in Huntsville Al. I remember seeing a lot of test facilities and so forth. I got to touch Enterprise (big deal for a Star Trek and NASA fan) Of course, that was in the days when the shuttle was a plan in the works. Later, I used to go to the upper floor of the computer programming department in college look out and see Saturn V rockets,  the Enterprise, and testing towers (I think the towers are/were for vibration tolerance tests-they are huge on the skyline) and think that by 2020 we would be colonizing the moon in some way. oops-missed that be a century or so.
